About

Our Program

The STEM Institute at Newton College and Career Academy is a premier, four-year program that fosters academic excellence through project-based learning, FLEX days, and a culture of collaboration and innovation. Serving 9th–12th grade students from Alcovy, Eastside, and Newton high schools, our program is grounded in the STEM disciplines of Biotechnology and Engineering. Students learn in workspaces that encourage them to explore their interests, develop solutions to real-world problems and are future ready.

At the heart of our program is the BRIGHT process, a structured problem-solving model that supports critical thinking and creativity across all content areas. This framework drives our interdisciplinary projects and prepares students to tackle complex challenges with confidence while developing an understanding of systematic problem solving.

BRIGHT
The STEM Institute emphasizes high expectations, strong support systems, and a positive learning culture where students are empowered to lead, grow, and excel. Through authentic learning experiences, students are prepared for college and workforce and intend on making a lasting impact on the world around them.

Our F.L.E.X. (Fueling the Learning and Educational eXperience) days allow students to turn traditional classrooms into collaboration spaces where they can concentrate their efforts on working with whom they need, where they need, and on what they need. This unique learning style, not found anywhere else in Georgia, teaches time and project management as well as collaboration skills required to be competitive in the 21st century job market. Additionally, it gives our students a competitive edge when entering college as they will already be prepared for the workload, rigor, and time management necessary to be successful.

"STEM may stand for science, technology, engineering, and math, but it goes much deepr than that here at NCCA. Everyone in this program is here for a specific reason aside from being interested in healthcare, engineering, or agriculture. We're all in STEM because we know we have the capability of coming together and making a name for not only ourselves, but for our school. We help each other grow each and everyday in order to harness the potential, bother academic and personal, of each and every associate. Our goal is to keep accomplishing the unthinkable, because
WE ARE STEM and WE DON'T STEP!!"

-Diana Ha, STEM Class of 2018
